So here are just a few things that we can EASILY swap out in our everyday lives that will make a huge positive impact to our fragile planet.
1. Bring Your Own Silverware
There are so many options out there. I actually have the UCO silverware and keep it in my car. If I need to grab a bite to eat while I’m out shopping, it’s always there.
2. Reusable Water Bottle
It’s time to ditch the store bought water, American’s throw out 21.9 billion plastic bottles a year! With all the cute reusable bottle options there is bound to be one that fits your style.
3. Reusable Snack Bags
Make your or your kids lunch extra special with fun reusable baggies. I actually made some for my kids, but if you don’t sew, check these out I found online…
Food waste is another major source of trash in homes across the US 35 million tons of food is thrown away every year. Grab a counter top compost container to collect your food scraps in your kitchen before you add them to your yard composter.
5. Making Conscience Buying Decisions
Try bringing your own reusable produce bags and buy loose fruits and veggies from the produce section
6. Reusable Grocery Bags
The average U.S. family uses about 1,500 plastic bags each year! Therefore by simply bringing reusable bags with you to the grocery store you can drastically cut down on the amount of trash sent to landfills every year.
7. Use Bar Soap
Change out that plastic loofah and plastic liquid soap bottle for bar soap like these.
8. Shop Local
Buying LOCAL conserves energy. As a result, they used far less fuel for transportation and less packaging.
9. Support Small Business
If you can’t find a “local” small business, the next best thing is to support other SMALL BUSINESS. Even though they still need to ship you a product, small businesses are very conscientious of the waste they produce. Therefore they ship everything at once instead of in multiple packages, which is a big plus! In addition, they use drastically less energy and create far less pollution than larger corporations.
10. Shop at 2nd Hand Stores
Americans put 26 billion pounds of clothing and textiles into landfills very year!
Hope you are willing to give these EASY changes a try! Start out slowly and add more changes as you feel comfortable.
